The Legend of the Changing Rings

The rings that changed Dea and Dessa are the Changing rings. There are eight of them. In the beginning, when the rings were crafted, each with an aquamarine stone setting, there were four Mer and four Walker that loved each other. The great magis of the mer crafted the rings so that the couples sould be together. If the couples had been peasantry, the magis would not have bothered. But they were the Two Great Kings and Two Great Queens who had fallen in love with Walkers. And so it was that the Mer and walkers were joined forever. The Walkers WERE peasantry, so nobody knew or cared of their dissappearance. They occasionally visited the land, however.
